Goalkeeper Cosimo Cirillo

  • D.O.B. 18/5/01
  • Born Mildura, VIC

DEBUT: 3/08/2016 v Iran

I’m Cosimo Cirillo, I’m 18 years old and I have cerebral palsy.

I’m born and raised in Mildura on a vineyard. From a young age I knew I was different. I used to wear ankle and foot orthotics and questioned why other people in the town never had to wear them. I felt uncomfortable and isolated in public, especially at school carnivals, I never participated in the sports from fear of embarrassment and mindset that I couldn’t do any of athletics or cross country events.

I started playing football at 6 years old with a local club, from the influence of my brother. I enjoy playing against abled body players as I like the challenge. When I attended a routine specialist appointment in Adelaide, I was introduced to 7-a-side Paralympic football team by a physiotherapist.

When I attended the Victorian program, I was amazed to see other people with similar disabilities to me for the first time and I found it easy to connect with them. My biggest achievement is making my debut for the Australian Pararoos in 2016 in Denmark and scoring my first goal in Iran 2018.
