America overcome Pararoos in second group game

The United States of America ran out 5-1 victors in the Pararoos' second group game on Saturday night in Spain.

The match did not lack a moment for the highlight reel, however, with Connor Bunce opening the scoring for Australia in spectacular fashion.

Australia's first goal of the IFCPF World Cup came courtesy of a rapid counter-attack after eight minutes.

Bunce picked up the ball in Australia's half, skipping forward past a couple of defenders and powering a venemous left-footed strike into the bottom corner.

Unfortunately for Australia, America struck straight back.

Shea Hammond caught the Australian defence napping to restore parity, before John Sullivan turned the tides after 23 minutes, tapping home a corner at the front post.

2-1 was the score at the break, with the Pararoos still well and truly in the contest.

While Goran Stajic deployed a deep defensive setup in the first half, his troops started to push forward and the game opened up during the final 30 minutes.

Cameron DeLillo came off the bench and grabbed a brace, with goals in the 47th and 54th minute.

Jonah Meyer-Crothers then put an exclamation point on the USA's perfomance with a cool finish in second-half stoppage time.

The 5-1 result put America top of Group C on goal difference, while Australia will play off for 9th-12th in the next week, starting with a big re-match versus Canada on Tuesday night.
